Search for jewelry dealer sparks reward fund

Colleagues are offering a $110,000 reward for information in the disappearance of John R. Slayton, a jewelry dealer from Osage Beach, Mo., who may have vanished Dec. 10 in St. Louis County, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Police said they found no evidence of a crime after searching Slayton’s vehicle. It was recovered a week ago in the lot of the Black Forest Apartment complex on Innsbruck Drive in south St. Louis County.

Slayton, 63, called his wife about 2 p.m. Dec. 10 and was expected to return home that evening.

The International Watch Jewelry Guild posted $100,000 and the Missouri Pawn Brokers Association posted $10,000 for tips leading to the conviction of anyone responsible for Slayton’s disappearance. Police are still investigating the disappearance as a missing-person case.

Anyone with information is asked to call St. Louis County Police at 314-889-2341.
