FUN FACT Entrepreneur Wade Watson developed the socially conscious diamond-mining company Pride Diamonds, in Sierra Leone in 2007, and Ruff&Cut, a socially responsible jewelry maker, in 2008. Ruff&Cut partners with some guest designers as well as crafting its own lines, to create jewelry whose sourcing and manufacturing processes are transparent. Ruff&Cut gives 10 percent of the wholesale cost of each piece to nongovernmental organizations working in Africa to improve lives in communities involved in metal and gemstone mining and jewelry manufacturing.
