SNAG Conference in San Francisco

The Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG) will hold its 34th annual conference, “Making It in Metal,” in San Francisco, May 21-25, 2003, at the Westin St. Francis Hotel on Union Square.

3M Inc. will be the corporate sponsor for the conference, and the National Endowment for the Arts has awarded SNAG $10,000 to help underwrite travel and hotel expenses incurred by the presenters. Other major sponsors of the conference include the Academy of Art College, Frei & Borel, the American Craft Council, Rio Grande, Multisensory Arts, Art Jewelry Forum, Savannah College of Art & Design, Facere Jewelry Art Gallery, Mobilia Gallery, Billanti Casting Co., Aaron Faber Gallery, Hoover & Strong, Kerrlab, Tim Roark Imports, East West Dye Co., Metalwerx, and Metals Edge Studio.

Presentations begin with keynote speaker Javier Mariscal, from Barcelona, Spain. Other speakers include Suzanne Baizerman of the Oakland Museum; Dr. Elizabeth Goring of the National Museums of Scotland; design historian and collector Steve Cabella; artists Boris Bally, Susan Cohn, David Cole, Kim Cridler, Marilyn da Silva, Donald Friedlich, Ana Pellicer, and Don Stuart. Linda Darty will present the annual national student slide show.
