What do jewelry, luxury automobiles, and pools have in common? All three were featured at Pool Jewels, an event invoking a luxurious L.A. lifestyle while promoting designer Judith Ripka’s new 18k Couture collection.
Mercedes-Benz, which named Ripka its Official Jewelry Designer of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios, co-sponsored the event, and their stunning $450,000 SLR McLaren was on display. Guests were driven to the event in one of two other Mercedes models: the new S-class flagship sedan and the new GL-class seven-passenger SUV.
After arriving at the Los Angeles Westwood pool in style, guests—including Downtown Julie Brown, Fern Mallis, and Minnie Mortimer—sipped “Diamond Daiquiris” and “Mercedes Mojitos” and received manicures, pedicures, and massages from Bliss Spa.
The vibe of water-sport glamour was fitting for Ripka, who is known for creating casual yet luxurious looks for women. Her 18k Couture collection is defined by “big, bold colors and lots of diamonds,” Jessica Stark, public relations manager for Judith Ripka Jewelry, tells JCK. The line is high-end and celebrity-inspired; that’s nothing new for the designer, who has dressed Nicole Richie and even named a ring after her. (The Nicole retails for $18,000).
Pool Jewels guests received the “Ultimate Pool Jewels Swag Bag,” which included C&C California poolside loungewear, a LeSportsac bag, and Smashbox cosmetics. “Guests were wowed by the incredible swag bag,” Stark reports. “Minnie Mortimer said she wishes there could be a pool party like this every day.” Which leaves some to imagine Ripka’s rings on severely shriveled fingers.
