Two jewelers were shot recently during robbery attempts.
In the first incident, a jewelry store owner in Riverside, Calif., was shot four times and critically wounded during a robbery in front of his home, according to media reports. Two persons escaped with jewelry and bags of gold, police told The Press-Enterprise newspaper. Police suspect the robbers knew he was carrying the valuable merchandise.
Jewelers’ Security Alliance, in its newsletter announcing the event, recommended that retail jewelers leave goods in store safes rather than bringing them home.
In the second incident, the owner of a Chandler, Ariz., jewelry store was shot in the face, and an alleged robber was killed in a gun battle that erupted during an attempted robbery.
A second suspect was captured following a police chase.
The owner is expected to recover, according to media reports.
