Jewelers of America (JA) announces the return of the popular JA Masters in Motion bench jeweler education program to Tucson, Ariz., in conjunction with Rio Grande’s Catalog in Motion. JA Masters in Motion will be held Feb. 2-4.
Now in its third year, JA Masters in Motion features hands-on demonstrations by JA Certified Master Bench Jewelers. The participating Master Bench Jewelers will show some of the latest advances in jewelry fabrication and their own specialized techniques. Three JA Masters are scheduled to appear: Jeffrey Mathews of Jeffrey Mathews Designs, Dallas; Marlin Pihl of Heritage Jewelers, Spokane, Wash.; and Gerald Ledbetter of Troy Vinson Jewelers, Fort Worth, Texas.
There will be four 90-minute sessions each day of the event. Topics include stone setting, tool modification, finishing techniques, and wax carving. In addition, JA Certified Master Bench Jeweler Jeffrey Mathews will conduct “Bench Tricks,” a demonstration of a series of timesaving techniques that can be applied to many bench procedures.
The event will include two panel discussions. At the career growth session, JA Masters will describe their career paths and answer questions from the audience. A problem-solving session will challenge audience members to bring any problem pieces for the JA Masters to troubleshoot.
There is no charge for JA Masters in Motion, but admission will be on a first-come, first-seated basis. For information, call JA at (800) 223-0673. For information about Rio Grande’s Catalog in Motion, call Rio Grande at (800) 396-9896.
