The fine-jewelry collection of Tony-award winning actress Dolores Gray will highlight an important estate jewelry auction at Doyle New York on Sept. 17. Gray, who broke attendance records during her tenure in London as the lead in Annie Get Your Gun, also appeared in numerous Hollywood musicals, including Kismet and The Opposite Sex.
Some highlights among her collection include an 18.61-ct. pear-shaped diamond engagement ring (estimate $65,000-$85,000), a 22-ct. platinum and diamond bracelet (estimate $20,000-$25,000), and a number of ruby and diamond pieces including a ring by David Webb.
Also to be offered in the sale is the estate of Gladys Burg of New York. Approximately 60 jewelry lots from her collection will come under the hammer, including a platinum and diamond bracelet comprising two rows of graduated pear-shaped diamonds (60 cts. t.w.) and one central row of graduated round diamonds (20 cts. t.w.). Estimate for the bracelet is $70,000 to $90,000.
Jewelry, watches, and objets from other estates also will be offered at the sale, including items from Tiffany and Co. and Cartier. Public exhibition runs from Sept. 13 to Sept. 16. The auction will begin at 10 a.m. on Sept. 17. For more information, visit www.doylenewyork.com/pr/jewelry.
