Henry Dunay Designs plans to dissolve, the famed designer told JCK. Dunay had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in June. “The business is going to be closed, and we are going to start all over in a different way,” he said.
The company’s assets were sold at a Dec. 16 auction for $3.5 mil-lion to SimplexDiam and Windsor Jewelers. However, the company’s intellectual property, including the Dunay name and designs, is “still being fought over,” he said.
While Henry Dunay the company will be no more, Henry Dunay the designer intends to remain active. He said the sale of so many of his famed pieces has been painful. “I put a lot of money in this business, and now we have to start all over again,” he said.
