The Gemological Institute of America has opened a school in Florence, Italy. Classes started in September, and the official opening will take place Oct. 13 during a ribbon-cutting ceremony. GIA Florence occupies two floors with more than 10,000 square feet of space, three classrooms, and a student lounge. The school is located in the Uffizi Center next to the Uffizi Gallery, which contains some of the world’s most famous Renaissance paintings and sculptures.
