Most jewelers know by now that keeping abreast of fashion and fine jewelry trends is vital to their business and buying plans, but many neglect the even more forward-looking trends that can be gleaned from new fabric releases. Fabric manufacturers, working at least a season ahead of fashion designers, have released their works for Fall 2005/Winter 2006. The overall trends for that season will include:
-
Follow the pattern. Look for more tweeds, pinstripes, jacquards, and checks. These interesting patterns signal a continued interest in luxe—rather than minimal—looks, generally a good sign for jewelry.
-
Color! Look for rich reds—from jewel tones to earth tones—to lead the pack. Other favorites include warm neutrals like tan and yellow/green hues. Contrasting black and whites also are in the mix.
-
In print. From paisley and skin prints to floral designs and embroidery, everything seems to have some sort of embellishment.
-
Heavy Metal. Fabrics for Fall/Winter 2006 are infused with a metal sheen. From beading to metallic yarns to metallic lacquer, it seems jewels will be battling clothes for bragging rights.
