Diamond manufacturing and trading group Dimexon Diamonds Ltd. (Mumbai) and Eurostar Diamond Traders N.V. (Antwerp) has become one of GIA India’s founding benefactors with a $1 million gift to the Institute’s Endowment for Education in India. Ensuring the Indian diamond industry’s continued growth through increased educational opportunities was the driving force behind the gift, said Pankaj K. Mehta, chairman.
India, which is the largest producer of polished diamonds in the world by volume, sends the second-largest number of students to GIA for industry education.
“India is looking forward to GIA coming here and is going to welcome it with open arms,” said Kaushik K. Mehta, CEO. “We want to be a part of that.”
The contribution means Dimexon-Eurostar will join GIA’s Million-Dollar Roundtable donors, and company representatives will be inducted into the League of Honor next year. A reception will be held in Mumbai July 20 to honor the group. GIA will also rename the student plaza at its world headquarters in Carlsbad, Calif., the “Dimexon-Eurostar Student Plaza” in appreciation of the contribution.
