Diamond Dealers Club president Jacob Banda won his re-election bid by a landslide, beating opponent Zvi Farber, the DDC’s former vice president.
Banda, who won his first DDC election by just four votes, received 80% of the votes this time around.
Banda said he was “deeply honored” by the win, and he vowed to boost business in the club and secure more rough for New York manufacturers. He also wants to bring the DDC into the computer age, with an interactive Web site and Internet kiosks on the club floor.
Former DDC secretary David Abraham was elected vice president, beating Yeheskel Ramon. The vice president presides over the club’s arbitration system. The election for secretary and treasurer will be held again because of a problem with the ballots.
Elected to the board of directors were Carl Edelstein, Eli Gottlieb, David Klein, Paul Morgenstein, Harvey Newman, Sheldon Kwiat, Alan Rehs, Yaron Hahami, Benny Simonov, and Bruno Scarselli. Club officials serve two-year terms.
