Jewelers of America will launch its first student design contest in conjunction with the 1995 Career Symposium at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.
Members of the American Jewelry Design Council will judge pieces on originality, marketability and manufacturability. Pieces must retail for under $5,000.
Any students enrolled in high school, college, technical or design school may participate by submitting renderings of their designs and descriptions of materials used. Contestants may enter only one design, which must be classified as fine jewelry, gold, platinum, diamonds or colored gems.
Winners will be announced at the Jewelry Career Symposium on Sunday, Oct. 15. First prize is $300, second is $200 and third is $100.
Deadline for entries is Sept. 15. Call Kelly Imperatore at Jewelers of America, (800) 223-0673.
