Bill Blass Timepieces is a new brand of Swiss-made mid- and luxury-priced watches that reflect the chic styling of the late American fashion designer. Blass also was an avid watch collector: His private collection, including Napoleon’s pocket watch and an original Cartier tank watch, is to be auctioned by Sotheby’s in October.
The new Bill Blass line, produced by New York City’s Omni Watch & Clock Co.—which holds global design and marketing rights under a long-term licensing agreement with Bill Blass Ltd.—replicates his design traits and interest in watches. Created in collaboration with Swiss watch designer Rodolphe Cattin, the men’s and women’s timepieces (in stainless steel, steel, and 18k) use Swiss quartz and automatic movements, full-cut hand-set diamonds, pastel mother-of-pearl dials, jewelry-like bracelets, and straps of top-quality leather, alligator, or stingray.
The collection draws on the Blass heritage in many ways. The “Double B” Blass logo is an integral design element. Blass’s favorite fabric patterns, such as herringbone or pinstripe, are incorporated in textural motifs such as the Pinstripe Link (right). His interest in watchmaking inspired the oversized men’s watches, including a power reserve automatic (left). The watches, sold through fine jewelry and watch stores, retail for $300 to $3,000.
