I first encountered Shahla Karimi in early 2020, when the brand introduced its Mid-Century collection, which felt at the time like a perfect introduction to the new ’20s (what came next that year was not so ideal).
I’ve remained enamored with designer Karimi’s work, it being of the chunky, bold gold variety. Her company has been busy this year, with a host of new collections. One of them is a collaboration with New York–based architect and developer Evan Wiskup that made its debut in early December at Art Basel Miami.
The six-piece capsule, named Entropy and representing both artists’ styles, combines clean lines, geometric forms, and lab-grown diamonds (natural diamonds available on request), with a choice of 14k or 18k yellow gold, 14k rose gold, or platinum.
“An homage to traditional notions of the interplay of ‘figure’ and ‘ground,’ this collection juxtaposes bold, figural stones with an understated, banded base,” read the notes on the collection. “Each piece reflects the architectural rhythm of cities and the natural flow of entropy through thoughtfully crafted forms.”
The design duo joined forces after Shahla was asked to create an engagement ring for Evan’s wife, Brittany. “The collaboration quickly transformed into a dynamic partnership, one that defied conventional expectations of what an engagement ring could be, his influence sparking a movement in artistic expression that continues to redefine her work,” the collection’s notes say.
The rings are indeed unconventional, but with a streamlined, classic touch that makes them universally appealing.
