Which Jewelry Retailers Made the National Retail Federation’s Hot 100 List?

Strictly jewelry retailers are few and far between on the National Retail Federation’s just released Hot 100 Retailers for 2015. But there are plenty of discount and big-box retailers that sell jewelry on the list, including Amazon.com (No. 18), Gilt Groupe (No. 44), and Ross Stores (No. 70).

The two major jewelry players on the list, Signet Jewelers and Charming Charlie, both made the top 25. Signet, the largest U.S. fine jewelry store chain, came in at No. 8, which places it ahead of H&M, Verizon Wireless, Overstock.com, and other mega-retailers. Charming Charlie’s, the Houston-based costume jewelry and accessories emporium, is No. 21 on the list, ahead of Trader Joe’s, Lululemon, and Sephora.

Criteria for what makes a retailer “hot” in the NRF’s list are less dependent on its bottom line and more about its potential for growth.

“The Hot 100 is a mix of companies that have balance sheets that allow them to make acquisitions or grow organically,” said Bryan Gildenberg, chief knowledge officer at Kantar Retail, which compiles the data for the Hot 100 list, in NRF’s Stores magazine. “Hot 100 retailers grow quickly because they understand why people are buying. They understand the dynamics of their audience.”
