Summer may be over, but that doesn’t mean our thirst for brightly painted goodies just up and disappears. Enter designer Penny Preville with the new Watercolor collection—an art-inspired take on the year’s in-demand rainbow—to satiate our craving for color.
Designed to resemble watercolor paintings, each piece in the collection—rings, bracelets, earrings, and necklaces—is splashed with color, from the pink and blue ombré styles to those rocking straight ROYGBIV.
For Preville, nearly 40 years have passed since she introduced the first designer collection for her eponymous brand, the very first pieces crafted from simple beads and feather accents. Today, the much-expanded line (from fashion to bridal) is award-winning and adored by jewelry lovers and celebrities alike.
“The rainbow sapphire colors were inspired by the colors of the Pre-Raphaelites’ artworks, specifically Dante Gabriel Rossetti,” says Preville. “Using pastel multicolored sapphires in the collection gives the appearance of the watercolor paintings I have always admired. I’ve always experimented with ombré—color has always been an important part of my designs—and finally achieved the look I desired that radiates a subtle rainbow effect. I also think of my grandmother’s use of color in her hand-painted Limoges china as inspiration.”
The collection is available in 18k yellow, rose, and white gold, and each stone has been hand-selected by Preville to create the perfect look. Styles are available through Penny Preville retailers and are also sold at pennypreville.com.
