High-end media publisher Modern Luxury is reviving Watches International. Seasoned watch journalist Stephen Watson will serve as its editor-in-chief.
The announcement was made on April 6—one day before the virtual opening of the Watches and Wonders fair.
The revamped Watches International—set to debut with a biannual edition in June—is “a testament to the brand’s history of identifying and conveying premium pieces,” the company said in a release. But the brand will also focus on “creating innovative experiences to entice the next generation of timepiece enthusiasts…bringing inclusivity, rather than exclusivity, to the storytelling experience.”
Watson added in the same statement: “I am thrilled to take on the role as the new editor-in-chief of Watches International, especially after a year when time became more precious to us than ever.”
Watson recently served as editor of Watch Journal, a luxury magazine targeting high–net worth collectors that has private jet distribution. Previously, he had worked as a watch editor for Hearst Digital, covering timepieces for publications such as Esquire, Town & Country, Marie Claire, Harper’s Bazaar, and Elle. He is a Fondation du Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève academy member, and a 2017 nominee for the Gem Award for media excellence.
Modern Luxury is the publisher of more than two dozen city-centered lifestyle glossies including Ocean Drive, Gotham, Michigan Avenue, and Los Angeles Confidential; a variety of Interiors and Weddings magazines; and such specialty publications as an Art Basel annual and Timeless, a twice-yearly magazine for Ben Bridge Jeweler.
