Unique Designs has acquired all the assets of China Pearl, the Los Angeles–based premium pearl distributor.
Unique, based in Secaucus, N.J., also owns Mercury Ring and Tanya Creations.
China Pearl was founded in 1983 by president and CEO Harold Jabarian. Its offerings include Chinese freshwater pearls, Japanese akoya cultured pearls, white and golden South Sea pearls from Australia and Southeast Asia, and Tahitian black pearls from French Polynesia. It sells its products under different brand names and “white labels,” to customers ranging from department stores and chain stores to independent retailers. Parent company CPI Luxury Group filed for Chapter 11 in July of last year.
Albert Franco, CEO of Unique, said in a statement, “Their product line complements ours.… We are confident that this new addition will significantly diversify the range of jewelry offerings from our group.”
