A world record $662,500 was paid for a Breguet pocket watch at the Apr. 25 – 26 auction of collectors’ watches, jewelry and exotic gems of Antiquorum Auctioneers in New York City. It is the highest price ever paid for a Breguet pocket watch in auction.
The timepiece, one of the earliest Breguet self-winding watches, was sold to the Breguet Museum.
Another Breguet-the earliest keyless watch known to exist-fetched $277,500, three times its pre-sale estimate. It was also sold to the museum, despite aggressive telephone bidding from German, English and American collectors.
