I somehow missed The Jazz Age: American Style in the 1920s when it was at the Cooper Hewitt in NYC this summer, which is really unfortunate because it featured a hoard of Art Deco jewelry from all the master jewelers. But all is not lost—I recently found out that the exhibit was produced and curated in collaboration with the Cleveland Museum of Art, where it opened just last month.

Sadly, I’m not going to be able to go, but anyone in the jewelry community within driving distance of the museum should plan a visit ASAP. Iconic American master jewelers such as Tiffany & Co., Raymond C. Yard, and Oscar Heyman are well represented, of course, and the exhibit also features a number of Art Deco dazzlers by the likes of Cartier, Boucheron, and Van Cleef & Arpels.

The designers and creatives in our community should find the exhibit a fertile hunting ground for ideas and inspiration (and the innumerable examples of period fashion and decorative arts are worth a look for the same reason).

Earlier this year we reported on the rise in popularity of Art Deco jewels at auction, and how that iconic period is influencing new collections from contemporary jewelry designers. In the same article, we also noted how well publicized (and attended) museum exhibits can likewise dictate consumer trends and tastes, prompting makers and retailers to respond to them.

By this logic, the appetite for all things Deco will be even more palpable in the months ahead. Turbocharged you could say. Make sure you’re ready.
