For those who celebrate Thanksgiving, we’re on the eve of festivities packed with, among other things, lots of food.
The holiday season—beginning with Halloween and running to roughly the New Year—is very much an ode to food in many ways, isn’t it? Through a wide array of cultures and traditions, down to one’s own personal taste, food is something that can bring everyone together (or, at the very least, something to do when we are all together).
Which is why this collection from Sydney Evan feels wonderfully apropos of the season. While there are no treats specific to the holiday season in the Los Angeles jewelers’ Food Court collection, the jewelry-filled food is universally beloved. Newest additions to the line include a diamond-dotted croissant (anyone else suddenly have an intense craving for that flaky, buttery goodness?), pavé pizzas with ruby pepperonis, and—my personal favorite—perfectly twisted pretzels with a dusting of diamonds.
While my family’s Polish Christmas Eve feast isn’t represented among the banana bracelet, strawberry studs, and pineapple pendant, Food Court does have me feeling nostalgic for the holidays of yore. The name alone takes me back to the holiday seasons spent at the mall with my mother, our arms so overloaded with shopping bags that we’d have to take them out to the car before heading back in again, making sure we found something special for everyone on our list (and then some). Tummies rumbling from our power shopping, we’d refuel at the upstairs food court—often a slice of pizza from Sbarro or a tray of Chinese food (peep the fortune cookie pendant)—before rounding out those last few stores. It wasn’t really about the shopping, or the gifts I knew my mom was trying to conceal from me. It was the company, the days spent together. Those were some of the best times.
If a pair of diamond cupcake earrings can send me on a trip down memory lane, it stands to reason that Sydney Evan’s Food Court line can indeed be about more than just food to other customers too.
Or, someone might just really, really love avocados, and that’s fine too.
