I don’t know where you are, but here on the East Coast, the weather is playing some mean tricks. One moment, it’s too cold to move, as it should be, I suppose—it is winter after all. The next, you can’t get your heavy coat off quickly enough, as the warmer-than-expected temperatures threaten to melt you. And while this preview of the spring to come is welcome in its warmth, I’d rather go without it. Quite frankly, it’s unnatural, unpredictable, and I’d prefer to vacation in consistently warmer climates while winter figures itself out.
While that’s not a possibility for me at the moment, I can daydream. The Amalfi collection from Suzanne Kalan makes for a wondrous visual aid as my mind, if not my bundled-up body, travels to the coastal, colorful villages of southern Italy.

The collection, designed by Suzanne Kalan’s daughter Patile, is inspired by a trip to the Amalfi Coast, where the Mediterranean is oh-so-blue, and the historical structures are as colorful as Pantone’s palette. Patile Kalandjian officially joined the business in 2012, taking the lead on the KALAN by Suzanne Kalan collection (you can read an interview of the mother-daughter duo by JCK, here). Amalfi, which was released in the summer of last year—but is especially coveted by yours truly this moment—takes elements from Kalan’s signature style, combining them with inspiration from the coastline that provides such a memorable vacation locale.

Crafted in 14k white, yellow, and rose gold, you’ll find gemstones, including morganite, London blue topaz, and rainbow moonstone, evoking scenes of Italian splendor. Many of the styles have a pastel aura that is perfect for the coming spring, though I am partial to the light-and-dark-blue combination pieces: an image of where sea meets sky.

Another thing to love about this collection is its compatibility with other pieces, both from within the line itself and, undoubtedly, those already in one’s jewelry box. You can stack the rings, layer the pendants, and cluster the earrings, creating whatever kind of look you can dream up. Still, the colors and shapes are powerful enough to live on their own—and look rather beautiful doing just that.
