Chris Ploof Introduces Carbon Fiber Rings

Chris Ploof is now offering the first made-in-the-USA carbon fiber and precious metal wedding rings, in a capsule collection of nine designs.

With retail prices starting at $2,100, the contemporary bands pair carbon fiber with 18k yellow or white gold, 14k rose gold, or palladium. “For me, the biggest benefit of carbon fiber is its cool color—a dark black hue with a lustrous sheen,” said designer Ploof in a statement.

“What we are doing with it is really special. We are combining the heft, value, and beauty of precious metals like gold with the same excellent quality of luxury modern materials which our customers expect, while making sure to keep the rings sizable for lifelong wear.”

March Bicego Opens Second Goldsmith Academy

Italian jewelry and accessories brand Marco Bicego has announced the second edition of its Academy, which offers training in jewelry production and craftsmanship, with the aim of creating new specialized professionals while upholding the tradition of Italian goldsmithing.

Held in collaboration with Gi Group, the first Italian multinational recruitment company with seven offices in the Vicenza area, the four-month training program is divided into a series of theoretical and practical courses in hand engraving, stone setting and mounting, and bench goldsmithing. At the end of 80 hours of classroom and laboratory work, selected candidates will begin 480 hours of on-the-job training within the Marco Bicego company.

“For us, the Academy is a commitment to the Vicenza area and to the district to which we belong as part of a project to promote craftsmanship and revitalize the old goldsmithing professions, a commitment for which we have recently been recognized with the Veneto Awards 2023,” said founder and creative director Marco Bicego in a statement. “But it is also our commitment to the new generations, both in terms of employment opportunities and training, to keep the culture of jewelry expertise alive.”
