For her second Paris boutique, jewelry designer Sophie Lepourry wanted an interior that reminds her customers of the iconic artwork of Claude Monet and Gustav Klimt.
The Sophie d’Agon store at 66 rue de Grenelle, which opened in late summer, features a vibrant floral wallpaper and a dramatic chandelier in the shape of leaves. Lepourry says she worked with local artists to create these touches, which were inspired by Monet, the French Impressionist painter of the beloved Water Lilies series.
Of course the shop has lots of gold and colorful gemstones, via Lepourry’s jewelry. This is the connection to Klimt, who was known for paintings of women seemingly bathed in gold and silver. (Klimt’s father was an engraver and goldsmith.)
With sky blue on the walls, the new boutique looks warm and welcoming yet also elegant. It is ideally located in Paris’ 7th arrondissement, close to Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche and a great shopping area, Lepourry says. The store is opposite the Maillol museum and the Fountain of the Four Seasons, two attractions that she says brings many tourists to the area.
Another of Lepourry’s favorite things about the boutique is the amount of natural light that comes in through the store’s front windows.
“We wanted to have lots of natural light, and the architect we worked with understood that having the right light was important. It’s more comfortable for people to have the same light they see outside when they come inside,” she says.
To coincide with the shop’s grand opening, Lepourry debuted a jewelry collection she created in honor of American actress Rita Hayworth. Pieces in the Rita collection feature enamel, gold tones, and richly colored gemstones as a tribute to Hayworth’s fiery red hair and personality, Lepourry says.
Lepourry says her second Paris store is different from the first because it will carry more than jewelry. She’s brought in some home goods, such as handpainted plates and dishes, as well as cosmetics to diversify what she sells.
“I was inspired by my visits to New York, where stores often blend products with jewelry. Maybe you cannot buy jewelry every week, so having more things to offer will bring you back in more often,” Lepourry says. “These also are brands I love, so I wanted to promote them through the boutique.”
The original Sophie d’Agon boutique opened at 62 rue de Saintogne in November 2021. It too features floral decor and summery colors, Lepourry says. She sought to reuse those themes in her second location to create a kind of brand universe for her clients.
Lepourry, a self-taught jewelry designer, formerly worked in the fashion industry, at such prestigious houses as Prada and Saint Laurent. She started her jewelry line in July 2017, using the name of her hometown in the brand name.
