Meta Testing AI-Generated Comments On Instagram
Meta has been utilizing AI capabilities in a variety of ways, testing the limits of their use (much to the dissatisfaction of its users). A new concept may further irritate users, as Meta has reportedly been spot-testing AI-generated comments on posts, allowing users the option to generate their comments with the help of artificial intelligence.
This doesn’t mean random comments will automatically pop up on your posts—these aren’t bots. Rather, users wanting to make a comment on a friend’s or business’s content would simply utilize AI for a bit of help or inspiration. It basically works by Meta analyzing what it sees in a photo, then suggesting three potential comments; if users don’t like the options, they can refresh to get more suggestions.
There is talk of this feature taking away from the authenticity of engagement with other Instagram users—and this is indeed valid—but using AI-generated comments is optional, and in the end it may prove helpful for those who do want to leave comments but aren’t quite sure what to say. While the feature is currently being tested, there’s no word on when or if it will become widely available.
Meta Adding AI-Powered Ad Updates
Also on the topic of artificial intelligence, Meta is adding updates for its Facebook and Instagram ad users.
New AI-powered tools are intended to help advertisers maximize the performance of their campaigns. “To help each business grow profitably we continue to invest in AI models like Andromeda that analyze tens of millions of ads and find the right message for the right person at the right time, making the most efficient use of advertising spend,” Meta said in a statement. “Now, we’re also introducing new tools and placements that can be used with the AI-powered Advantage+ sales campaigns to maximize performance, giving our ad systems more options while driving sales online and in-store.”
One of the more interesting updates includes a Google-style AI model display for clothing, which will show how different items look on different body types. This could have implications for virtually trying on jewelry via social media in the future, which could enable more confident shopping on the part of the consumer.
Twitter Bird Sells for Almost $35,000 at Auction
The original Twitter bird logo, which hung outside the company’s headquarters in San Francisco, was sold for $34,375 at an RR Auction titled Steve Jobs and the Apple Revolution on March 20.
The sign, weighing in at 560 pounds and measuring roughly 12 feet by 9 feet, was originally auctioned off by Elon Musk in 2023 after he took over the social media giant, renaming it as X. The new buyer has not been named.
