I love these rollouts of jewelry collections in honor of Earth Day because it’s our industry’s opportunity to demonstrate responsible manufacturing and business practices—and it gives us jewelry lovers hordes of new goodies to get all starry-eyed about.
While some collections take a literal approach to honoring the day (like the gorgeous wildlife collection by Logan Hollowell that I featured on Wednesday), others utilize a collection of sustainable materials, in addition to raising funds or awareness for environmental causes. The collection featured here does a bit of both, and all while looking luxurious.
Amazônia comes from Sauer, an 80-year-old Brazilian jeweler known for its use of epically stunning gemstones and statement-making designs. Stephanie Wenk, the brand’s creative director since 2013, has an eye for beauty as well as sustainability, often working with 18k recycled gold.
Sauer has been in partnership with Instituto de Conservação e Desenvolvimento (IDESAM), an organization focusing on the certification of zero carbon emissions in the Amazon rainforest, since late last year. For each piece of jewelry sold, the brand plants a tree in the Amazon’s Uatumã Reserve. That partnership continues with this latest collection, which will be released in honor of Earth Day 2021.
Here you’ll find a series of serious stunners: bubbly forms of aquamarine, rubellite, pink opal, green tourmaline, and jade; emeralds worthy of the Academy Awards. You’ll also find flowers, a dolphin, and wood carved in the likeness of a turtle shell, some of the collection’s more animated representations of Mother Nature.
The collection will debut with a special trunk show on Moda Operandi on April 20.
