Lita Asscher and Reena Ahluwalia have received plenty of compliments on their gold- and diamond-intense Stars of Africa styles, starting at $5,500 retail, (Asscher, president of Royal Asscher, launched the collection in 2009 and Ahluwalia designed several pieces for it) but they also got a request: make it more affordable.
Enter the new Shining Star pendant and ring, made of a non-tarnishing, platinum-sterling-silver alloy containing four percent platinum as well as some copper. The styles still feature free-floating diamonds encased in fluid-filled sapphire domes, giving them the effect of falling snowflakes, but the metal choice allows the retail prices to start at just $1,250–a 70 percent price reduction compared to 18k gold pieces.
“We heard from many lovers of Royal Asscher that they would love to see ‘Stars of Africa’ products in lower price points,” Ahluwalia told JCK yesterday.
Asscher, meanwhile, weighed in over email with another important fact: more styles will be available next week.
The Shining Star pendant from the Stars of Africa collection, designed by Reena Ahluwalia for Royal Asscher, is made of platinum-silver, black enamel, and 1.2 cts. t.w. diamonds encased in a fluid-filled sapphire globe. It is available in two sizes and retail prices start at $1,550.
The Shining Star ring from the Stars of Africa collection, designed by Reena Ahluwalia for Royal Asscher, is made of platinum-silver, black enamel, and 0.60 cts. t.w. diamonds encased in a fluid-filled sapphire globe. It is available in two sizes and retail prices start at $1,250.
