Fresh off of a successful collaboration with Target (just the latest of the myriad partnerships the brand has achieved), the playful-prep outfitter Rowing Blazers has teamed up with Bamford Watch Department, the retailer Wind Vintage, and TAG Heuer to reimagine a classic timepiece and introduce a limited-edition, 42 mm “Yacht-Timer” Carrera.
Taking inspiration from the iconic Heuer Yacht-Timer that competitive sailors wore during the ’60s and ’70s regattas, this watch pays homage to the Yacht-Timer’s renowned color scheme: a white dial with bold blue lettering and accents in red, blue, green, and yellow. These colors originally marked 1-minute intervals on the classic Yacht-Timer but have been repurposed for the Rowing Blazers Carrera as register colors for the chronograph. Furthermore, the Rowing Blazers Carrera incorporates the Yacht-Timer’s distinctive etching of colors, a nod to the “Ben-Day dots” found in comic books and pop art, making this a piece for watch and art lovers alike.
“I’ve always loved the Heuer Yacht-Timer,” said Rowing Blazers’ founder, Jack Carlson, who collects vintage Heuer Yacht-Timers, in a statement, “both for its sporting origins and its very Rowing Blazers color scheme, but also because there’s something very Roy Lichtenstein about the way the colors are rendered. Eric [Wind of Wind Vintage] loves vintage Heuer stopwatches too, and we’ve dreamed of producing our own watch in the style of these amazing pieces. It’s a dream to work with TAG Heuer and Bamford to make this a reality.”
“This watch has become one of my favorites to wear,” Wind said in a statement. “I am confident it will sell out quickly and would encourage any interested individuals to act fast and not miss it.”
George Bamford, founder of Bamford Watch Department, the U.K. company known for its custom timepiece collaborations, also expressed his appreciation for the partnership and design: “I’ve always loved the Rowing Blazers brand and it has been such an honor working with them to create this unique timepiece. I have secretly been wearing it on my wrist for the last couple of months, and every time it catches my eye I am reminded how much I have enjoyed this collaboration.”
Limited to just 99 pieces at $8,900 each, the collection is available exclusively at RowingBlazers.com from 11 a.m. ET Friday, Oct. 13.
