After concluding the Heirloom Jewellery, Silver, and Timepieces auction on May 30–31, Mumbai, India, auction house AstaGuru garnered nearly $2.4 million in total sales.

“The auction results validate that collectors are always looking for opportunities to acquire coveted [and rare] vintage jewelry,”  said AstaGuru auction house’s jewelry expert, Jay Sagar, in a statement. “With several necklaces and other beautiful pieces, the auction offering was a wholesome selection of different items that go into the making of any important heirloom jewelry collection. The success of the auction also reinforces that whether Indian or Western designs, vintage jewelry is evergreen and timeless. It is a prized possession that remains highly sought after.”

But of the 132 lots, one stood out: the extremely rare, three-row saltwater pearl necklace (shown above and at top) that, alone, contributed more than $833,000 (estimate: $693,333–$800,000) to the sale. It has 181 pearls, and what makes it stand out is the two different shades and sizes, which are hard to come by in the world of natural pearls. Even more, the pearls are separated by crystal-adorned, faceted disks and secured by a gold clasp with old-cut diamonds.

Another headliner from the sale was a Cartier white gold necklace (shown above), dripping in 57 carats of bezel-set diamonds across three strands. The piece, circa 1990, is brought together by a removable, statement pendant.

For more highlights from the sale—including vintage and dress timepieces that made the auction “diverse not only in terms of pieces by leading brands but also for its variety,” according to Jehangir Readymoney, AstaGuru’s luxury watch expert, in a statement. See AstaGuru’s full analysis.
