Social media platform Pinterest recently released a report of the top wedding trends searched for by its users, as the late-spring and summer wedding season kicks off.
While engagement rings and other bridal-related jewelry are not part of the report, it can serve as a valuable source of information for what to-be-weds are interested in, with some interesting updates on wedding aesthetics.
“The 2022 wedding season is going to be one of the busiest on record as couples make up for canceled, altered, and postponed celebrations. As the destination for wedding inspiration, Pinterest gathered all of the top trends to help Pinners get ready for this nuptial season,” according to Pinterest’s blog.
Believe it or not, Gen Z pinners are beginning to get married (does that make you feel old too?), and, as one might expect, they’re mixing up some traditions.
Incorporating black into their big day appears popular with Gen Z, as searches for “black dress wedding party,” “goth wedding decorations,” “black wedding ideas,” and “vampire wedding dress” all saw increases. In addition, searches for black wedding cakes went up by 94%. Perhaps these wedding planners might also find interest in black diamond engagement rings or wedding day jewelry with blackened metals?
In a trend that’s music to our industry’s ears, pearls are having a major moment in weddings. Searches for “pearl wedding,” “pearl wedding veil,” “pearl wedding dress,” “pearl wedding decorations,” and “pearl cake,” all expanded according to the platform. If these users are all in on pearl weddings, certainly pearl jewelry is in order.
Other notable trends reported by Pinterest support the demand for dark wedding themes: “red and black wedding theme,” “black boho wedding dress,” “sage green and black wedding,” and “black glam nails” were some of the search terms that experienced increases.
Other dominant category searches included nonbinary wedding inspiration, Bridgerton-inspired themes, and sustainable wedding ideas. These searches all have ramifications for jewelry—all-gender wedding bands, vintage jewels, and responsibly sourced creations, for example.
