Pinterest Names Style Trends for Coachella and the Festival Season

Share

For the second year in a row, Pinterest has partnered with the Coachella music festival so fans can use the platform to “explore, try on, and remix the trends that will rule the grounds this festival season,” according to a Pinterest announcement.

Pinterest searches for “Coachella aesthetic outfit” are up 769% over last year, the app said. “Searches for Coachella start spiking at the beginning of the year on Pinterest, and nearly half of those searches are driven by Gen Z,” said Sara Pollack, vice president of global consumer marketing at Pinterest, in a statement. “This gives us an early peek into what trends are likely to pop this festival season. We’re excited to help festivalgoers put a new spin on their identity by exploring and shopping the trends on Pinterest, and to give Coachella fans the opportunity to create an aesthetic all their own at the festival with our stylists and trend experts.”

Pinterest will have an immersive installation on-site during both weekends of Coachella (April 11–13 and April 18–20), but jewelry retailers don’t have to attend the California festival to use Pinterest’s trending aesthetics in creating their spring and summer showcases—particularly if they’re looking to attract Gen Z clients.

Top festival trends identified by Pinterest lend themselves to a wide range of jewelry styles. “Freestyle fits,” for example, is “a throwback to the Y2K streetwear era for Coachella, serving up looks inspired by hip-hop and R&B, vintage jerseys, and camo shorts,” said Pinterest. Chunky gold chains, oversize pendants, and diamond studs—all staples of a jewelry store—play into this aesthetic nicely.

“Dark ethereal,” a look described as “dark angel meets forest fairy,” would call for stacked choker necklaces and layered jewelry, according to Pinterest, which said searches for “ethereal jewelry” are up 986% from last year. Such a term is open to interpretation, but airy layers and shimmering chains would seem to fit it perfectly.

“Twee aesthetic,” another festival trend cited by Pinterest, hails the return of the Peter Pan collar, blessing everything with a vintage-inspired touch. Vintage jewelry is already highly sought-after, and it looks like Gen Z has no intentions of slowing down that demand.
