Phillips has named Benoît Repellin (pictured) its head of jewelry for Europe, in what the auction house called “an important milestone in the development of the company’s rapidly expanding jewelry department.”
Repellin joins Phillips on Feb. 1, 2022, and will be based in Geneva.
He has spent the last nine years at Sotheby’s, where he was most recently director and head of its Magnificent Jewels sales. He conducted Sotheby’s jewelry auctions in Europe and won high-profile consignments for its jewelry sales.
In his new role, Repellin aims to establish a strong presence for Phillips Jewels in Europe.
“There is tremendous opportunity to build a highly competitive jewelry business with a modern sensibility in today’s auction market, and Benoît’s appointment marks the next step for Phillips in achieving this,” said Graeme Thompson, worldwide head of jewelry in Phillips, in a statement.
In a statement, Phillips said it achieved record annual jewelry auctions in 2021, posting a 75% increase from 2019.
In May, Sara Payne Thomeier joined Phillips as the head of jewels, Americas, and Cristel Tan joined the company as international jewelry specialist, Southeast Asia.
