Among the well-established brands at the Las Vegas jewelry shows this past summer, a trend began to emerge: more investment in high jewelry.
These brands—known for their fine jewelry offerings in a range of prices—were betting big on high-dollar pieces, showcasing entire lines dedicated to the most meticulous craftsmanship and finest materials.
Purveyor of pearls Mikimoto is one such example. In an upscale, multi-suite setting at Couture, the storied jeweler showcased everything from classic pearl strands to more fashion-forward, everyday pieces, and dedicated an entire room dedicated to the highest, most exquisite pearl jewels you’ve ever seen. I was told that the brand has plans to evolve into more high jewelry, and even was looking to do more with (gasp!) gemstones other than pearls. No matter its evolution, one thing was guaranteed: The quality and timelessness Mikimoto is revered for is here to stay.
High jewelry was made a clear priority among other brands during Jewelry Week, too: Le Vian, for example, showcased an astonishing collection of meticulously made, one-of-a-kind pieces.
While these jewels came in all manner of colored gemstones and diamonds, the pearls were particularly awe-inspiring. The gem has long been a status symbol, but over the years we’ve watched them grow to attract new audiences: the simplest, most classic everyday strands; the modern, cool creations; the grandest of them all. We’ll take our pearls in every shape and form, but we’re especially fond of them in jewels like these.
