The Gemological Institute of America will host its Gemstone
Gathering in Bangkok on July 27.
Nicholas Sturman, GIA supervisor of pearl identification, will present “Pearl Matters: Conch, Pen and Computerized X-Ray Micro-Tomography Machine (CT machine).”
The presentation will address the fascination with conch and
pen pearls and share information on the CT machine used in pearl
identification.
Sturman spent more than 16 years studying pearls in the
Kingdom of Bahrain as the gemological advisor to the Bahrain Government’s Gem
and Pearl Testing Laboratory.
