Onirikka’s Latest Collection Really Glimmers

Share

There’s just something about Glimmer.

The newest collection from Onirikka, the brand by El Salvador–raised designer Gloria Battle, has taken a beloved staple of our industry—gold and diamond jewelry—and made it feel, somehow, different. That’s the beauty of jewelry design, isn’t it? The way each hand can lend a distinctive style, especially in the realm of artisan-made goods. We’ve seen evil eye jewelry before—stars and hearts, too. They’re all here among Glimmer’s world of jewels, to be mixed and matched at one’s pleasure.

It’s hard to put a finger on what exactly makes Onirikka’s Glimmer pieces different. The most obvious factor may be the setting of the diamonds: Rather than a typical pavé setting, the diamonds work with the metal in an alternating pattern that creates visual interest that’s glittery, but not overly so. Its moniker is also persuasive—how celebratory and beautiful is the word glimmer?

“A brainstorm of ideas usually comes after one initial piece or design that I am obsessed with, and once there is a cohesiveness to the collection, it gets a feel and a name based on that feeling,” Battle tells JCK. “Glimmer’s seed was implanted from a bracelet I made. I had been playing around with three strands of colors in a design and have always loved the idea of three golds, so I made the bracelet with the Glimmer motif and diamonds that I absolutely fell in love with—that was the first piece.”

Battle’s success at crafting cohesive, subtle tricolor gold designs for Glimmer’s bracelet and ring is hugely important because I have a feeling we’ll be seeing more mixed metals coming our way. Two-tone is one thing, but three metals? The look is fresh and modern—and instantly iconic, if you ask me (which you didn’t, but you’re reading this, aren’t you?).

Beyond the aesthetic of Glimmer, the designer looks to inspire wearers with emotions to lift the spirits. “The message behind Glimmer is a sparkle of hope and something to look forward to,” Battle says. “Glimmer is versatile, chic, and can be worn from day to night. We chose symbols that we love and feel connected to, so I am hoping customers do too. The collection has movement, which makes it fun, and the pieces sparkle—they glimmer.”

As with many things, pictures can’t quite do the collection justice, but Onirikka’s Instagram offers a bit more on the sparkling jewels.
