The Marc Jacobs runway show closes every New York Fashion Week—and editors, retailers, and fashion-watchers alike are always treated to the designer’s distinct, confident (and decidedly untrendy) point of view.
Jacobs’ Spring 2018 show was no different; models walked in oversized suits and coats in eye-popping colors, their hair wrapped up in tall, shimmery turbans. Fanny packs the size of standard handbags swung from a few narrow waists.
And the jewelry was as outré as the apparel. Chandelier earrings hung below models’ shoulders. Bib-style necklaces comprised of colorful enameled flowers, critters, and fruits covered clavicles. And brilliant brooches that looked like they’d been plucked from grandma’s jewel box were affixed to a few of the turbans.

The juxtaposition of the vibrant getups and the glittering, old-school jewelry felt both irreverent and keenly stylish.
Jewelry has been sizing up for several seasons, of course. But I think at Marc Jacobs we may have hit peak hugeness in the bauble department. And man, was it glorious.
