Three of the jewelry industry’s most well-curated trade shows— Melee the Show, Metal + Smith, and NY Now—opened last weekend in Manhattan. Collectively, the fairs showcased a comprehensive array of independent, fashion-centric American fine jewelry lines.
Cruising the aisles of beautiful baubles, several trends made themselves known, among them gypsy rings (they are everywhere), matte and brushed gold patinas, message and alphabet jewelry (still!), gray and brown diamonds, and the resurgence of historic design. Clean and modern may be fine fashion jewelry’s bread and butter right now, but Victorian and Art Deco inspirations are lying in wait and may blossom into key trends for 2020 and beyond.
Here are some of my favorite finds from the trio of New York City shows.
