The holidays are fast approaching, and I’m scrambling to find the perfect gift for everyone on my list, one that would let them know just how much they mean to me, especially when we can’t all be together.
As for what I plan to ask for this year? I don’t need much—I feel fortunate to have what I do, and I don’t think anyone needs to go to any trouble on my account. It’s more about the giving than the receiving this year, if you ask me, and…oh, shoot.
See, the thing is, I had the best intentions to not ask for much this year. I really did! It’s just that Katherine Jetter went and released this new collection, and I know it’s a bit extravagant for a gift, and I know I don’t need more jewelry, but we don’t buy jewelry because we need it, do we?
No, we buy jewelry because it’s gorgeous and it speaks to us; it creates an irresistible pull from somewhere beyond that feels out of our control. It’s a luxury purchase that sometimes feels almost as necessary as the air we breathe, like if I don’t get to wear this jewelry I’ll…well, I’ll feel really bummed out.
Because Katherine Jetter’s new creations are lively and fun, qualities that, in a year like 2020, do feel vital. They’re the holiday spice that’s everything nice, but with their cool enamel detail, they’ll be spot-on in the most wanted department well into 2021 and beyond, as enamel pieces have recently proven to be crowd-pleasers.
“This collection is part of my new Couture collection, which is very vibrant, colorful, and fun,” says Jetter. “I have incorporated cutting-edge techniques such as setting colored gemstones with custom enamel colors, and I’ve added new gold finishes in a range of sparkly hues. I’ve realized that adding unexpected pops of color into my jewelry helps brighten the mood (and we could all use a healthy dose of that these days!).”
The designer said it right. So no, I don’t need much this year. But I certainly wouldn’t say no to my own sparkling, color-boosted piece of mood-brightening jewelry, either.
