I recently received an email from the Venetian and the Palazzo about my stay in Vegas, with an article about the worthiest photo-op spots in the hotel (you probably got the same one).
Naturally, I’ve made some mental notes (okay, actual notes) to take photos in these spots, because, why not? It’s Vegas. But my time in Vegas—like most of yours—will be filled with many more photo opportunities than the average visitor. Because, jewelry.
I’m making a checklist of the categories and previewed pieces I feel that my visit to JCK Las Vegas won’t be complete without getting a snap with—and this dazzler is definitely on the list.
Awarded a Guinness World Record at Baselworld for the most diamonds set on a watch, the Mudan watch features 50.01 cts. t.w.—that’s 15,858 diamonds, to be exact. It also contains a painting of a diamond by Reena Ahluwalia on its dial, because it just needed that extra oomph. Overachiever.
The timepiece was made in partnership by Aaron Shum Jewelry, owner of Coronet, and Reena Ahluwalia, who is known for not only her paintings, but also her jewelry design.
Mudan is Chinese for peony, the name of the flower that inspires the design of the watch. In Chinese culture, the peony symbolizes nobility, honor, and wealth. With that many diamonds, I’d say the wealth part is pretty much inferred.
Ahluwalia will also be displaying her latest collection, Alyssum by Reena, at the Aaron Shum Jewelry booth at JCK Las Vegas (booth 57096). The collection features Ahluwalia’s logo, a quatrefoil with a star at its center, and pieces are crafted in 18k white, yellow, and rose gold with diamonds and enamel.
It seems the Hong Kong pavilion at JCK Las Vegas will be abuzz with plenty of sparkle—you can bet I’ll be headed there during my time at the show. See you there!
