Mr Porter’s New “In America” Campaign Offers Snapshot Of Men’s Jewelry Style

Share

What kind of jewelry are the hippest men in America wearing these days? Here at JCK, we have a good hunch. That’s because we attended a party earlier this month at a private home in the hills above Bel Air, Calif., hosted by the fashion e-tailer Mr Porter, and the shindig offered an unbeatable snapshot of how LA’s tastemakers are adorning themselves. In short, think beaded bracelets, diamond-set links, inlaid stones, and lots and lots of color.

The well-dressed crowd included actors (Brett Gelman of Stranger Things fame), fashion insiders (The Elder Statesmen’s Greg Chait), photographers (Carlos Eric Lopez), artists (James Acai) and jewelers (Maor Cohen), all of whom shared at least one sartorial characteristic: They were unapologetically bejeweled.

The party marked the kickoff of Mr Porter’s “In America” campaign, a three-week-long coast-to-coast initiative, and capsule collection, designed to highlight American menswear today.

In addition to the fashion brands featured in the collection (Tom Ford, Gallery Dept., and Rhude, to name a few), a handful of jewelry labels—including Luis Morais, Greg Yuna, Polite Worldwide, and Jacquie Aiche—contributed pieces to the range, all championing American craft and creativity.

The collection includes the requisite beaded cord bracelets that have been a staple of men’s jewelry showcases for years (Luis Morais’ gold, gemstone, and enamel bracelets are a shoo-in).

New, however, are more elaborate, colorful necklaces, like the pop culture–inspired styles from Los Angeles–based sustainable luxury brand Polite Worldwide, whose cannabis leaf and cartoon figure pendants add a dash of irreverence to its ball-chain necklaces and bracelets.

Beverly Hills, Calif.–based designer Jacquie Aiche turned out an enchanting collection of inlaid gemstone designs featuring desert scenes that look like paintings. She complemented the pieces with her new watch line designed in collaboration with Timex, which debuted last week and is already sold out.

The most deluxe pieces in Mr Porter’s In America collection belong to the New York–based jeweler Greg Yuna. His heavy gold chain-link bracelets, long gold beaded necklaces, and spectacular Charmers white gold bracelet, which brims with more than 16 carats of blue sapphires in a mix of fancy shapes, are dazzling reminders that contemporary American men’s style is masculine, daring, and refreshingly colorful.
