I remember reading, before I had a child of my own, about how one of my favorite celebrities celebrated Mother’s Day. She talked about how she kicked everyone out of the house so that she could have it to herself, to enjoy the peace and quiet and do whatever she pleased. And I remember thinking, who does that?! How could you not want to spend Mother’s Day with the people who have made you a mom?
Now, as a mom to a 1-year-old, I get it.
Moms don’t get much time to themselves. Mine is found by sneaking away to take too-long showers—twice a week, if I’m lucky—and cooking dinner for our little family when my husband gets home. He gets to spend his time winding up the baby just before bedtime, and I sneak in an episode of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, which I happen to be watching for the fourth time (but man, it never gets old).
So remember this when your customers are in your store this week, as Mother’s Day fast approaches. Yes, help dad find the perfect gift to show his appreciation for all that the mother of his children does—presents in the form of jewelry are always a good idea. But, perhaps more importantly, remind the moms in your store to treat themselves. Mother’s Day is all about them, and, while I hope their families have something good in store, what better way to celebrate than by celebrating oneself, just the way one wants to?
I won’t be kicking my family out of the house this Sunday, and I won’t be jetting off to enjoy hours at the spa (unless someone has something in store that I don’t know about, ahem). My goal is to fit in two episodes of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and snuggle up with my two favorite people. In addition, though, I’d like to take my own advice and celebrate myself with a little jewel to commemorate my second Mother’s Day. Here’s my list—encourage your shoppers to make theirs, and send them away with something wonderful!
