It was my fabulous colleague Emili Vesilind who recently pointed out, in her “Trend File” series, that fan-shape jewelry was making waves. And ever since then, I’ve found myself completely infatuated. I enjoyed the pieces selected in that article from the get-go, and then, when asked to select my favorite jewel on the Oscars red carpet (another initiative from Em), I found myself most drawn to Alicia Vikander’s fan-featuring Bulgari diamond necklace. Despite the fact that I think (or I’m just now realizing) that I prefer the style of modern jewelry—for the most part, anyway—I adore the vintage vibe of the fan shape, seen so often in the jewels that would make their way into the retail store I used to work in. It has quite a nostalgic feel, and as the majority of the pieces you see featured here are inarguably modern, I’m thrilled to see the two worlds collide. So as the fan continues to be big news, here are its latest incarnations.
