This is typically the time of year when we hear a lot about dressing in layers. Icy temperatures in the morning may often melt into warmer ones in the afternoon—only to turn around and freeze all over again—and having to pile on (and take off) layers isn’t something that makes most people happy.
Jewelry layers, on the other hand, are ones we definitely want to hear more about (and wear more of). From neck parties to ring stacks, piling it on is a jewelry tradition to live for.
Ananya has layers in droves with its arrestingly gorgeous Mogra collection, but they are of a different variety.
Origami-like folds are layered in alternating materials, such as black and white mother-of-pearl, pavé and baguette diamonds, and gemstones, for jewelry that is both statement-making yet everyday wearable—if a little more boisterous than your typical daily pieces (no complaints here).
Ananya is the work of designer Ananya Malhotra, a graduate of London’s Central Saint Martins and winner of a Suffragettes Design Award, outfitting celebrated women scientists and Nobel Prize winners in a brooch of her design. Her creations, though rooted in Indian spiritual heritage, have a clear universal appeal that transcends cultures.
“This collection distills the visual and spiritual form of the Jasmine flower—mogra in Hindi—as a symbol of unity and divine hope,” says Malhotra. “Traditionally used to adorn women to celebrate their femininity as goddesses, jasmine garlands are fastened in hair to symbolize good fortune. This collection is crafted with a combination of hand cut mother-of-pearl inlay, gemstones and translated into contemporary forms.”
You can practically smell the heavenly jasmine scent, the exquisite creations appealing to the senses with their graceful use of color and curves. I imagine that wearing any piece from this line would have someone feeling like a rightful goddess. It’s simply beautiful—bold but delicate, elegant, powerful.
The collection is currently available at London Jewelers, and you can learn more at ananya.com.
