David Balogh, founder of the legendary Balogh Jewelers in Miami Beach, died June 4 at his home in Miami. He was 94.
Balogh and his wife Sallie Balogh, who died in 2005, opened Balogh Jewelers in 1945 and later established branches in Coral Gables, Fla.; Hallandale Beach, Fla.; and on Madison Avenue in New York City. The retailer was known for its posh clientele, which included Frank Sinatra and the Shah of Iran. The store closed in 1999 when Balogh retired.
Balogh was also an accomplished pianist and flutist. He played first flute with the Miami Beach Symphony Orchestra.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made toward research for Alzheimer’s, cancer, or diabetes.
