Mercedes Abramo, the longtime head of Cartier’s North American division who recently served as Cartier’s deputy chief commercial officer, announced on LinkedIn that she has left the company.
Abramo worked for Cartier for over 15 years. She joined the jeweler in 2008 as director of its New York flagship, after serving in a similar role at Tiffany. In 2014, she was named president and CEO for Cartier North America. She was the first woman to hold that position.
In early 2023, Abramo was promoted to deputy chief commercial officer at Cartier, based out of Geneva. At press time, it wasn’t clear if someone will take over her role. Cartier didn’t return a request for comment.
“Saying farewell to the wonderful maison Cartier is not easy, and I am filled with a mix of emotions as I think back on 16.5 years of achievements and experiences,” Abramo said in her LinkedIn post.
“I have often said to my teams that we are just a chapter in Cartier’s rich history,” she continued. “Our role is to leave an imprint on the legacy of the maison and know that the creations of today will be the treasures of tomorrow.”
In 2020, Jewelers for Children honored Abramo at its annual Facets of Hope event at the JCK show in Las Vegas. Two years earlier, she’d received a Visionary Award from the Women’s Jewelry Association. She has also been a board member for Jewelers of America, as well as the non-jewelry J.M. Smucker Co.
