As a May baby, I feel as if I’m a caretaker of emerald, a representative of the stone, somehow. And so each year, at the turn of May, I find it imperative that I blog about emerald, highlighting all of the latest jewels featuring “my” gem.
As trusty and reliable, emerald can be counted on to stand out in more than a few new designs. Which is good, because in terms of words, I don’t have many. What can I say about emerald that hasn’t been written and rewritten countless times? We know the facts, we know the lore. We’re familiar with some of the famous versions of emerald. And still it surprises, because designers entrust it to do so and put their skills and talents behind crafting just the right venue for this stone to perform.
Personally, I’m on a bit of a green kick at the moment. I’m finding lime green and chartreuse irresistibly appealing, but I love the idea of emerald anchoring ensembles in these hues. And that’s what’s so great about having emerald as a birthstone: There are always new ways to wear it—or new things to wear it with—and it always seems to work. It’s chameleonic in that way, even though its color couldn’t really be considered neutral, so we never have to worry about it clashing with our outfits. Though, if gifted with jewels like these at our disposal, would we even care whether they matched? I think not.
Some of these will be on display at JCK Las Vegas, and, since we’ll be there just in time for the end of May, I’ll get to try some on in honor of this most wonderful month. Though, again, the time of year makes no difference to the allure of this gem—emerald really is an anytime, anywhere, forever stone.
