Just as characters from Rudyard Kipling’s short stories in The Jungle Books inspired Disney’s animated film The Jungle Book, so too is Mattioli taking inspiration from the sage panther character Bagheera for fine jewelry.
Bagheera is the name of one of Mattioli’s new collections and features the big cat’s face in angular form in 18k gold with gemstone accents including a black onyx nose. To date, six SKUs are available in two-finger rings and earrings, with a unique spring mechanism in the rings that allow them to adapt to the wearer’s finger size. “The majority [of similar] pieces presented on the market are rigid, but our ring is flexible!” explains designer Licia Mattioli. Retail prices start at $7,200, and about 10 percent of the brand’s top retailers worldwide are currently stocking the pieces in their stores.
