Mary Esses is trading in carnival flair for modern-day simplicity in Una, her new jewelry collection of minimalist-inspired one-of-a-kinds.
“For so long I had worked with colored stones in elaborate designs,” she recollects about her beautiful lace-inspired and sometimes oversize (read Brazilian) styles. Now, however, she’s tapping into a more minimalist vibe. “I wanted to use colored stones in a new, neat, simple, and modern way—something fun and elegant but also for everyday.”
The result is a 10-piece (and growing) collection of one-offs made in silver and a proprietary color of 18k white—it’s a hue akin to pewter—yellow, and pink gold with unusual gems like rose zircon and latte-colored diamonds, among others. One example: an ear cuff with baguette-cut diamonds ranging in color from light rose to latte. “The shape of the stone is not the conventional brilliant, but is, in fact, tapered and asymmetric,” she continues. “The overall design has a note of old spirit with a tremendous ‘now’ appeal.”
Retail prices start at $1,875.
