I like to think that the fingerless mesh white gold and diamond glove Madonna donned for the premiere of her new tour documentary, Madonna: The MDNA Tour, was worn in tribute to the millions of teenyboppers who co-opted the pop icon’s style in the 1980s. (As you probably recall, Madonna always rocked fingerless mesh or lace gloves back then.)
The dazzling glove—created by New York City–based luxury fine jewelry and watch brand Jacob & Co.—certainly lent some irreverent luxe to the Marlene Dietrich–style tuxedo ensemble she wore at the June 18 premiere at Manhattan’s Paris Theatre.
The one-of-a-kind Diamond Mesh Glove, which is part of a larger collection of one-off pieces called Rare Touch, was inspired by “a woman who is truly unique,” says designer Jacob Arabo of Jacob & Co. “Madonna certainly exemplifies this kind of woman—a woman with great style who isn’t afraid to take risks. I am thrilled to have her be the first person to wear [it].”
